Conference Recap: Elevate 2019 (San Francisco)

January 15, 2020

On August 7, 2019, Plato hosted Elevate 2019, a one-day summit for Engineering and Product leaders who want to overcome pressing management challenges. The conference took place at The Midway in San Francisco, California.

It featured presentations from tech leaders, peer networking and 1:1 mentoring sessions. Plato is a mentorship platform and community for Engineering leaders. We were thrilled to be one (of two) Platinum sponsors for the event.

Morning sessions

The morning featured opening remarks from Plato’s CEO, Quang Hoang and a keynote titled “Managing during growth & change” by Chris Slowe, CTO at Reddit. Following the keynote were fireside chats and panel discussions on the topics of leadership, surviving fast scaling and building alignment between Engineering and Product.

A second morning keynote titled “The Product Triangle” was presented by Michael Lopp, Slack’s VP of Product Engineering.

Afternoon sessions

After lunch, attendees could choose between an interactive workshop session and a talk. The workshop sessions were small group discussions facilitated by leaders from Slack, Amazon, Salesforce, Zendesk, Atlassian, Box and more.

The talks featured a presentation followed by a panel discussion. The topics included evaluating engineers, managing remote teams, evaluating your team’s success and career development.

We enjoyed meeting and interacting with Engineering leaders.
