Challenge

The company was unable to increase sales and was losing revenue when their customers couldn’t sign in due to system overload. Their system was unable to cope with the current volume of requests. It needed to be replaced with a new scalable, reliable and fast single sign-on (SSO) solution.

Solution

We analyzed their current architecture and infrastructure and proposed a redesign of their existing SSO solution. In order to do so and mitigate risks, we proposed and later implemented a temporary backward compatible solution to do gradual seamless migration and avoid big bang refactoring which might impact existing customers trying to login. Lohika implemented a robust, scalable backward compatible system using microservices architecture and asynchronous messaging hosted in AWS to provide a fail-safe and reliable SSO solution.

As part of the delivery, Lohika created a performance suite to verify new solution behavior according to requested SLAs, defined AWS deployment able to handle an average load and during peak hours, verified that auto-scaling works properly for new components, assisted in data migration tool implementation from an old to a new data schema, etc.

Results

Lohika team has implemented and deployed new solution to the production and changed the old single sign-on to the new one without system outage and seamlessly to the existing customers. Lohika has provided support with a migration of production user data (about 20M users). Since implementing solution provided by Lohika our client has been able to better cope with customer demands; auto-scaling to receive almost 10 million to 40 million requests per day (depend on seasonality).
