Robert Carr has a passion for leading the creation of innovative products and services, and has been a key player in the history of software development from the beginning. He began his career with "the birth of the PC," and joined Xerox PARC in 1978. At Xerox PARC, Mr. Carr developed integrated applications software for the Alto, which was the precursor to the Xerox Star, which in turn was the inspiration for the Macintosh.
Mr. Carr is an independent entrepreneur and advisor to Silicon Valley software companies, as well as the cofounder and CEO of KeepandShare, a web 2.0 company that provides an integrated suite of group productivity applications. Mr. Carr is invested in and has served on the board of a variety of software infrastructure companies. From 1997 through 2003, Mr. Carr was Managing Director at Sofinnova Ventures, where he was one of five partners managing $550 million in early-stage high-tech venture capital funds.
Prior to joining Sofinnova, Mr. Carr was Vice President of the AutoCAD Market Group at Autodesk, Inc., where he managed a major turnaround of the company's flagship product, AutoCAD. In 1987, Mr. Carr cofounded the high-profile mobile communications startup GO Corporation, where he led all software development, including the groundbreaking PenPoint operating system. He is the co-inventor and holder of two patents on pen-based computing and object-oriented operating systems.
Mr. Carr is a two-time winner of PC Magazine's Technical Excellence Award for both Framework and PenPoint. In both cases, his products defeated the dominant industry players of the time (Lotus in integrated software when 1-2-3 was dominant; Microsoft in operating systems). Mr. Carr holds BS and MS degrees in Computer Engineering from Stanford University.
Daniel Dargham President & CEO, Lohika
Daniel Dargham brings fifteen years of international experience in a diversified range of software engineering, marketing, sales and general management experience to Lohika, from both established and high-growth companies at the cutting edge of software development.
Mr. Dargham comes to Lohika from KLA-Tencor, where he held full P&L responsibility for the Test and Analysis Software Division, including the management of the Custom Software Development and Client Services departments.
While at KLA-Tencor, Mr. Dargham achieved 250% growth in revenues in three years, and developed the annual Strategic Plans for his division. He is also credited with turning around the Test Software product line, making it the most profitable in the company. Prior to KLA-Tencor, Mr. Dargham was at IBM, where he held several software engineering and engineering management roles in data analysis application development. Leading an IBM-Siemens (now Infineon) joint venture team, he was instrumental in introducing and ramping up IBM's Advanced Memory Manufacturing Line in Paris.
Mr. Dargham holds an MBA from Stanford University and a MS in Electrical Engineering from INSA Lyon, France.
Han J. Kim General Partner and Co-Founder, Altos Ventures
Han Kim is a General Partner and co-founder of Altos Ventures, focusing on investments in the areas of software and business services. He also concentrates on companies with significant business in Asia, leveraging the firm's substantial contacts in the region, particularly in Korea. Han currently serves on the board of Blogcocktail, Bluehole, Lohika, OutSpark, Pandora.tv, Provade, Nable Communications, SeeControl, Spicus and TVU Networks, and works closely with DemandTec and Vesta Corporation. He also led the firm's prior investments in Instill (acquired by iTradeNetwork), Digital Market (acquired by Agile Software), Evant (acquired by Manhattan Associates),and iOwn (acquired by Citigroup).
Before founding Altos Ventures in 1996, Han worked at Booz Allen & Hamilton solving strategic and operational issues for global media, retail and distribution companies. Previously, he was at Procter & Gamble. Han also served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Han served two years in Korea, commanding both U.S. and Korean soldiers.
Han received an MBA from Stanford University and a BS in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Lore Harp McGovern Strategic Business Advisor
Lore Harp McGovern has a long history as a successful serial entrepreneur and high-tech strategic advisor. In 1976, Ms. Harp McGovern co-founded and was CEO of Vector Graphic Inc., one of the first pioneering microcomputer companies. After raising venture capital, she initiated a successful public offering in 1981 and grew the company to more than $50 million in sales.
She is a Director of both the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT, and GoFish Technologies Inc. She also serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Associates of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT. Ms. Harp McGovern is a founding member of the Committee of 200, a national organization of women business executives. She was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in 1983, is a strategic investor in 15 high-tech companies, and a member of the Band of Angels.
Ms. Harp McGovern is Board Observer of the International Data Group. Previously, she was president and CEO of Good Morning Teacher!, a company that published more than 750 educational titles for grades K-12, as well as consumer-oriented educational materials for four- to eight-year-olds. Good Morning Teacher! was sold in 1999 to an educational publisher.
In 1985, Ms. Harp McGovern founded Aplex Corp. to design and develop products for the feminine hygiene market. She holds patents for two inventions, and sold the marketing rights in 1989. In 1981, she co-founded the Pacific Technology Venture Fund, with offices in San Francisco and Tokyo, and directed the firm from 1984 to 1985.
Ms. Harp McGovern is the former Director of the American Electronics Association, Montgomery Ventures, Women's Campaign Fund, filmsOn.com, HandsOn Networks (sold to mForma), and Network Telemetrics Inc. She is also the former Advisor to Women.com (sold to iVillage) and Skillsvillage.com (sold to PeopleSoft). She served as an Advisor to Blue Pumpkin Software (sold to Witness Systems), and is also a Director of Human Rights Watch, New York, as well as serves as a Visiting Committee Member for Art and Science at MIT.
Ms. Harp McGovern is a graduate of California State University at Los Angeles and holds an MBA from Pepperdine University.
Ashok Santhanam President and CEO, Bristlecone
Ashok Santhanam is President and CEO of Bristlecone, a recognized leader in providing consulting and systems integration solutions in the area of supply chain management. He has more than twenty years of business, sales and executive management experience in the technology industry. Until recently, Mr. Santhanam was Senior Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations for Epiphany (recently acquired by SSA Global, Inc.), responsible for worldwide sales, professional services, customer training and education.
Prior to Epiphany, Mr. Santhanam ran a successful private management consulting firm helping technology companies manage offshore initiatives, complex services offerings and business process outsourcing. Mr. Santhanam also founded Inventa, a successful systems integration company focused on providing complex business-to-business integration solutions with a fixed price, fixed time business model. He served as its President and CEO, and then as its Chair. Under Mr. Santhanam’s leadership, Inventa signed on a number of leading industry clients, including ADP, Agilent, Charles Schwab, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Fujitsu, GE and Siemens. He also raised capital from premier venture capital firms and grew Inventa’s revenues to $45 million in 2000.
Ashok received an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School. He also holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, India.
Gene Shklar President, Shklar Foundation
Gene Shklar is an active angel investor, philanthropist, and President of the Eugene and Daymel Shklar Foundation. He has over twenty-five years of technology development and marketing expertise with database, networking, and client-server software companies. He recently retired from Keynote Systems (Nasdaq:KEYN) where he was Vice President of Public Services as well as a major investor and member of the company's Board of Directors.
Mr. Shklar was a founding employee and served as Executive Director of Product Marketing of Siebel Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SEBL), the world's leading provider of eBusiness applications software. He also served as Vice President of Marketing for Gupta Corporation. Before that, he worked for five years at Oracle Corporation as the Director of Marketing for both the PC Products and Networked Products Divisions. Mr. Shklar studied applied mathematics and computer science at Harvard University.
Adrian Slywotzky Managing Director, Mercer Management Consulting
Adrian Slywotzky is a Director and member of the Board of Directors of Mercer Management Consulting, a global firm that focuses on the development of strategies for growth in changing markets. He is responsible for development of the firm's intellectual capital. Since 1979, he has consulted to companies in a broad spectrum of industries including information services, financial services, consumer products, health care, pharmaceuticals, computer hardware and software, chemicals, electronic materials, steel, broadcasting, and retailing.
Mr. Slywotzky has worked extensively at the CEO level for several major corporations on issues relating to new business development and value growth. His focus has been on developing customer-based strategic perspectives and effective new business designs. He has authored or coauthored a number of successful books, including How Digital Is Your Business?, Profit Patterns: 30 Ways to Anticipate and Profit from Strategic Forces Reshaping Your Business, and The Profit Zone: How Strategic Business Design Will Lead You to Tomorrow's Profits, which Business Week magazine named to its list of Top Ten Business Books of 1998.
Mr. Slywotzky speaks frequently on topics such as the changing face of business strategy, value migration, and business design. He has been featured at many conferences, including The World Economic Forum at Davos, and the 1997 Microsoft CEO Summit. Most recently, he has been the keynote speaker at the Forbes CEO Forum, the Fortune CEO Conference, and the Fortune CIO Conference.
Mr. Slywotzky holds degrees from Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Business School.
